Emma Kay – Founder & Director, WalkSafe

Back to News + Views

It’s my pleasure to share with you the latest episode of the Communicating Purpose podcast with Emma Kay, Founder and Director of WalkSafe, the app that ‘should not have to exist’.

Following the birth of her daughter in 2020, Emma founded the personal safety app, which helps people plan safer journeys home and avoid being targeted by crime.

With almost a million downloads, WalkSafe is the most downloaded personal safety app in the UK.

Amassing partnerships with councils across the UK, the platform has positioned itself as a thought leader on women’s safety and has even campaigned alongside England’s Lionesses.

At the time of Sarah Everard’s tragic murder in March 2021, WalkSafe became the top app on The App Store.

In this episode, we discussed:

⚠️The viral-moment-turned-PR-crisis that taught Emma a lifelong lesson

📰 How media coverage served as a vehicle to convey the authenticity behind the app

🚺How businesses can contribute to creating safer communities

I hope you enjoy.
