TODAY Higginson Strategy has announced its certification as a B Corporation (or B Corp), joining a growing group of companies pursuing purpose as well as profit.
The purpose driven agency surpassed rigorous social and environmental standards which represent its commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit. Higginson Strategy joins a community of 5,250 businesses globally who have certified as B Corps.
Higginson Strategy scored 106.9 with 80 being the required score to become a B Corp. Most companies in the UK are estimated to have a score of 40.
The B Corp community in the UK, representing a broad cross section of industries and sizes, comprises over 800 companies and include well-known brands such as The Guardian, Innocent Drinks, Patagonia and The Body Shop.
Founded in 2017 by former political journalists John and Clodagh Higginson, the purpose driven agency has 18 employees across offices in London and Manchester.
Having built a reputation for fighting plastic pollution, and for women’s rights, Higginson has a client base made up of charities, NGOs and businesses.
The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’ operations and covers five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers.
John Higginson said: “We have been strong advocates that business can be forces for good in our world since our inception. Achieving B Corp status is a great shorthand for us to show that we practice what we preach. But I particularly look forward to being active members of the B Corp community. The more we help each other the stronger we will become.”
To complete the certification, the company will legally embed their commitment to purpose beyond profit in their company articles.
Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK, says “We are delighted to welcome Higginson Strategy to the B Corp community. We know that Higginson Strategy are going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward.”
“Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit.”
